Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy

My review of the Final Fantasy VII reboot, which is now a trilogy.

The story is a retelling of the 1997 Final Fantasy VII, split into three games. The world is run by the Shinra Electric Power Company, which drains mako, the planet’s own life energy, out of the ground through its reactors, and its city Midgar sits on a plate above the slums. Cloud Strife, a mercenary who was once in Shinra’s elite force SOLDIER, takes a job from Avalanche, a small group led by Barret Wallace who believe the planet is alive and that Shinra’s mining will kill it. The job is to bomb a reactor. From there the story pulls in Tifa, his childhood friend, Aerith, a flower seller in the slums who is more than she seems, and Sephiroth, the hero of Shinra’s old war who was thought dead. Remake is the whole of Midgar, from the first bombing to the escape from the city. Rebirth is the world beyond it, with the party on Sephiroth’s trail. Revelation is the finale.
